UVITALUBE™ Internal and External Lubricants

Uvitalube™ productsconsist of internal and external lubricants, which arethermally stable, extremely polar, low melting point lubricants. Uvitalube™chemistry is new and unique to polar condensation polymers such as PET andnylon, and has been used for the efficient dispersion of organic and inorganicpigments in, for example, PET textile fibres, where its high polarity andcompatibility in polar resins significantly aids in the dispersion ofcolorants. Other plastics applications which have significantly benefited fromthe unique properties of Uvitalube™ include PVC, EVA, and TPU.


Uvitalube™ fatty acid amidehydrogenated condensates are very polar lubricants and solvents, and formeutectic mixtures when used with higher melting additives that are difficult todisperse in polar resins. Some typical examples of the advantages of Uvitalube™include its use with pigments and dyes for nylon masterbatch, to wet outpigments and disperse them without them any agglomeration. It wets out pigments rapidly and improves the dispersion ofpigments and increases color strength. With adding this polar low meltinglubricant, it can extend pigments in nylon by as much as 40 percent, especiallyfor all red pigments. ABSand wood fiber composites also benefit from enhancedpolar compatibility, with reduced shear and higher output rates. Major polymermanufacturers have used it as an additive carrier, and it has also been used asa lubricant in frangible bullets for the military. 


Themolecular weight average of Uvitalube™ is around 1500 and its hydroxyl numberis close to zero.


Two of the most popularcommercially available products are Uvitalube™ 21 and Uvitalube™ 22, which are both cationic in character.

l The melting point for Uvitalube21™ is 58 – 65°C

l The melting point for Uvitalube22™ is 91 – 101°C 


Typical end uselevels are 0.2 – 0.3%  



These are analytical differential scanning calorimetry testing on a perkin Elmer DSCinstrument standard in the NAFTA industry. No polymer is involved. This testshows the intrinsic stability of the additive.




Other Uvitalube™products can be tailored to suit specific applications, and to produce highermelting points if desired.
